Greg Sanders’ Jersey to be Retired on Dec. 3rd
According to a source, former Bonas great Greg Sanders #53 is set to have his jersey retired either before, or at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Buffalo on December 3rd. The program has yet to make an official announcement.
Sanders is the all-time leading scorer in team history, and helped lead the Bonnies to an NIT title in 1977.
Sanders had largely gone missing and was out of touch from the SBU community until last year when the Bona Blog’s Vinny Pezzimenti investigated, eventually found, and talked with Sanders about his time at St. Bonaventure. Sander’s was unsure at the time whether or not he would ever make it back to the Reilly Center again but it appears the Bonas legend will make an appearance on campus once again this winter.
It is hard to believe that Sanders would have been located without Vinny’s work last winter. We hope that Vinny enjoys this day at the RC a great deal as well for all his efforts in bringing home “Mr. G”. This is truly an incredible ending to a story that Vinny helped write.
