Katie Healy: One of the Best Ever in Brown and White

As the Bonnies head toward their opening game in the Atlantic Ten Championship, Katie Healy has been named to the First Team All-Atlantic Ten Honors for her contributions this season. Even as a Senior leader, her stats have been stacking up since the day she arrived on campus. It comes as no surprise that the feature photo for the team directory has Healy front and center  for the Bonnies because that’s exactly what she came to expect when she arrived four years ago.

Healy is no stranger to garnering accolades as she was named the 2012 All Western New York High School Female Player of the year and was named to the 5th team of All-New York State. This year though, her play has taken on a tone of urgency and it shows in how she has filled up the stat sheet and has taken the Bonnies and put them on her back in her quest to reaching the NCAA Tournament.

As for some reference to how good Healy’s career has been, check out these number to familiarize yourself with one of the best Bonnies to play for the program.

  • 4th All-Time in Scoring in St. Bonaventure History (1,670)
  • 1st All-Time in Blocked Shots (148)
  • 3rd All-Time in Rebounds (820)
  • 4th All-Time in Games Scoring in Double Figures (87)

As for the 2015-16 season, the Bonnies were picked to finish 9th in the preseason poll. The Bonnies have locked up a top 4 seed in the tournament no thanks to Healy being the focal point of the game plan night in night out. The focus given to Healy by opposing coaches has led to numerous opportunities for players like Nyla Rueter, Miranda Drummond and Gabby Richmond to step up and carry the load when Healy is swallowed by double team’s and switches. As for this year, ponder these stats while you watch the Bonnies strive for their first ever Atlantic Ten Championship:

  • Led team in scoring 11 times this season, 26 points her high
  • Led team in rebounding 16 times
  • Led team in scoring 20+ points per game (6 times)
  • Led team in double figure rebounding (6 times)
  • 2nd on team in assists
  • 1st on team in Points Per Game (15.6)
  • The only player to land in the top 15 of the conference in scoring, rebounds, blocks, assists and field goal percentage.

As  for belonging in elite company, and a big thanks to Scott Eddy, Assistant Sports Information Director at St. Bonaventure for pointing this out, Healy is one of three players all-time to record over 1,600 points and at least 700 rebounds. In short, Healy is one of the best in the conference and one of the best to ever put on the Brown and White.

The Bonnies face the winner of the VCU/Richmond tomorrow in Richmond at 2 p.m. on the A-10 Network, A-10 App and the American Sports Network.

Special thanks go out to Scott Eddy and the St. Bonaventure Athletic Department for use of stats and photos
