Adams is the A10 Rookie of the Week for the 3rd time this season.

Adams is the A10 Rookie of the Week for the 3rd time this season.

The A10 announced freshman point guard Jay Adams is the Rookie of the Week and junior guard Marcus Posley was named the Big 4 Player of the Week. Posley would have won A10 Player of the Week if he did anything against URI, but their guards completely shut him down after his 36 point effort at Duquesne. For Adams, his third win of the season in this space gives him a great shot to be a 1st team all-rookie come March. Adams chipped in 10/5 against the Rams in the loss prior to posting a career game at Duquesne with 15 and 14. Here is the Gobonnies release.

St. Bonaventure men’s basketball student-athletes earned a pair of Player of the Week awards for the period ending Jan. 25.

Freshman guard Jaylen Adams was named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Rookie of the Week, while junior guard Marcus Posley was named the Big 4 men’s basketball Player of the Week.

Adams, who earned the award for the third time this season, averaged 12.5 points and 9.5 assists over two games.  In a 100-97 overtime win at Duquesne Jan. 22, he tied the school record with 14 assists, did not commit a turnover, and scored 15 points including the eventual game-winning jumper.  Adams then had 10 points, five assists and two steals in a loss at Rhode Island on Jan. 25.

For the season, Adams is averaging 10.7 points and 4.2 assists per game.  In the Bonnies’ seven A-10 games, he has 39 assists and just 10 turnovers.

Posley averaged 21 points per game en route to his fourth Big 4 Player of the Week selection this year.  He scored a career high 36 points – the second-highest total ever by a St. Bonaventure player against an A-10 opponent – in the win over Duquesne.  Posley scored 12 of those points over the final 2:35 of regulation, including the game-tying three-pointer with six seconds remaining.  Posley made eight of his 11 three-point attempts, tying the school record. He had six points in Sunday’s loss at Rhode Island.

Posley leads the Atlantic 10 Conference scoring at 17.8 points per game.
